nor is there a widespread movement to electer ministers or priest to office..... You should have been here for the school board elections of a couple years ago. The christain fundamentalists ran a slate of stealth candidates. These tend to be low turnout elections. The local school board has overlapping terms, so the fundies waited for 3 election cycles until they packed the board, then they fired the administration and replaced them with cronies, banned a bunch of books from the library, tried to start every school function with a prayer, and chased away an Apple computer division because they gave benefits to same-sex partners. It took a few years to vote several out of the position, then the rest quit when they lost their majority. Most of them pulled their kids from school and spend their time begging Junior-George for vouchers to fund their cult school. TP
