Thursday June 22, 7:31 am Eastern Time Company Press Release International FiberCom AeroComm Subsidiary Ships More Than 100 Ultra-Q Active Filters for Use in Telecommunication and Utility Industries Eliminates Interference, Enhancing Strength, Quality and Range of Signal PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 2000-- International FiberCom Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:IFCI - news) Thursday announced that its AeroComm subsidiary has completed shipment of more than 100 units of its proprietary, patent-pending Ultra-Q active filter this year to a number of companies in the telecommunication and utility industries.
The Ultra-Q active filter is used to enhance signals for cellular communication, MAS, Paging, UHF and VHF frequencies, eliminating all other signals and allowing only the desired signal to pass through. Currently, 14 companies in the telecommunication and utility industries, with a total of more than 4,600 potential deployment sites, are beta testing the Ultra-Q filter.
This filter, in effect, provides a stronger signal, which can result in such benefits as a reduction in the number of dropped calls and increased range. According to International FiberCom Chairman & CEO Joseph Kealy, AeroComm anticipates ongoing monthly shipments of Ultra-Q active filters as additional companies successfully complete their beta testing.
Kealy commented: ``These initial shipments are a validation by major companies in the telecommunication and utility industries of AeroComm's proprietary wireless technology. With the rapid deployment of wireless devices throughout North America, the number of different signals is increasing exponentially. These signals attack one another, weakening a desired signal and decreasing its range and effectiveness. AeroComm's Ultra-Q filter effectively eliminates interference from all other frequencies, enhancing the strength, quality and range of the desired frequency,'' he said.
``We are pleased with the initial acceptance of our technology as a solution to a growing wireless connectivity problems. These shipments are another step toward our goal of full commercial production of the Ultra-Q filter,'' Kealy added.
A computerized unit, the Ultra-Q active filter is frequency agile and is the only product on the market that can provide a Q of 28,000. This compares with old technology cavity filters that can only achieve Qs of 300 and are substantially larger in size. Because it is field programmable, the user can adjust the frequency on location. The Ultra-Q is a band pass filter that passes the desired frequency or frequencies and eliminates all other interfering frequencies from the pass band.
In many systems, adjacent channel interference is a side effect of the FCC mandated refarming because channels are so closely spaced. The Ultra-Q high Q and narrow 3dB bandwidth gives excellent adjacent channel protection and will not introduce any insertion loss. Ultra-Q is available at 150-170MHz, 450-512MHz and 928-952 MHz.
