Bush is a moderate pragmatic republican politician. Pragmatic means I will change my mind whenever it is in my self-interest to do so. Principles, values, old resentments, are placed on the back burner to confront the new task at hand. Old friends can become enemies and enemies can become good friends. It is a pragmatic game of musical chairs.
