Alan, it is coming from the Monday, May 12, 1997, IBD, the last column of the stock quotes tables....it shows Mgmt % owns 2.....in the April 14, 1997 IBD, it showed 1% for AMAT. (I guess it's possible they goofed, but anyway, that is what these papers say)
Also, in today's IBD there is a small article on Page A2....Heading "World Chip Sales To Boom After Slow '97 - Forecast" "The chip industry should grow 4.6% this year to $138 billion in sales, despite a flat first quarter, the Semiconductor Industry Association reported. The industry group said that from 1998 to 2000, global sales are likely to increase by more than 20% a year, hitting $245.7 billion. If not for the dollar's recent strength against foreign currencies, sales would grow 9% in 1997, the SIA said. Since 1959, the industry has had an average growth rate of 17%."
