GSM and CDMA under debate in Nigeria

Lagos (Post Express, June 21, 2000) - Siotel is one of the Private Telecoms Operators (PTOs) in the country that seek a rapid growth in the nation's telecommunications industry.

In this interview with UCHENDU WOGU, the acting General Manager of the company Mr. Judge Okpara spoke on SIOTEL's committment to bits own for the industry to grow, and the government must know this.

There is a strong debate currently going on, on the type of technology to be deployed in the wireless mobile network in the country. Some vote for Global Systems for Mobile Communication (GSM) others call for code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). What is your opinion?

My opinion is simple and that is government should not restrict the kind of technology to be deployed in the wireless mobile service. Again, we should have as more carriers as possible because this will help solve this problem.
