What's going on here? I wish I knew. But I sold 60% of my position yesterday and today. Retaining 40% shows my equivocation as well as my long-term confidence in F-5. I'll share some of my speculation.
1. Part of what was going on was a short squeeze. I don't think it's possible to know at any given moment what the short interest is, but until recently, at least, there has been short interest that is a substantial percentage of the float. Anyone short FFIV should be nervous whether their analysis is fundamental or technical. We have gone from 30 tp 50. Time for shorts to give it up.
2. Downside is limited. Looking at the stock's chart, it certainly looks like a double bottom has been put in recently.
3. Breaking above 4000 on the CompX and above 500 on the IIX is positive for those bullish.
4. Recent company announcements and brokerage views as well as 1st Union's rec. are positive.
5. Radware was up to a high of 29 today. Alteon reached a high of 96 1/2. Somebody (deep pockets) wanted internet traffic and content management stock enough to pay 10% more than yesterday's close for them.
