Good catch, Edwin. I've been thinking all along that this could be a great deal.

I think the NCB deal could be a good one. Japanese lending institutions are in need of a revolution. Aside from loan sharks, it is difficult for a venture or angel backed firm in Japan to get debt financing. There is poor due diligence (well, the founder's friend went to Todai so I guess we can approve the loan) at best.

A good case study is the US, where aside from Silicon Valley Bank there are a number of debt players for venture/angel-backed companies. City National Bank and Imperial Bank saw the success of SVB (NASD: SIVB) which rose on the value of the warrants it takes in its 9000+ clients. Full disclosure: they have a warrant on a company I cofounded and are a strategic partner. Take a look at the SIVB chart and you see how it takes off from the times of IPOs in companies like Silicon Graphics and Netscape.

Son knows the size of this opportunity based on his experience in the US market with startups. If Son can manage it, it will do well, IMO.
