Glenn, I wonder if Bezos can get his money back from Drugstore.com, Nextcard.com,Homegrocery.com, and all the other lousy investments he made?

>Seattle, June 22 (Bloomberg) -- Amazon.com Inc. is raising the monthly fee it charges its auctions and zShops sellers to $39.99 for up to 5,000 listed items, from $9.99 for up to 3,000 items, starting next month, according to CNET News.com, an online news service for the computer and technology industry. Analysts say the Internet retailer is trying to compete better against eBay Inc. by offering unique merchandise from well-known sellers instead of focusing on consumer-to-consumer auctions, and that the company may want to ``weed out'' weaker sellers. The fee increase follows the introduction of a new feature to let zShop sellers design personalized storefronts, CNET News.com said.

Amazon.com formed zShops in September, allowing merchants to rent space on the company's Web site and sell their goods in exchange for a monthly fee and a commission on transactions.
