Do I hear the sound of crushed nuts?

A NOK-QCOM deal for chipsets could be bad news for IDCC.
Any deal must include 2G and 3G.

w molloy, if such a deal included WCDMA chipsets, than yes, the news could be bad for IDCC's ASIC sales. But assuming the deal is for CDMA2000 chips, then that is a completely different story.

IDCC will derive future earnings from a number of different sources. The sale of FDD ASICs is just one of them. Judging by the current stock price, it appears the market doesn't believe these sales will be significant anyway.

But let's not get carried away here and assume a NOK-QCOM deal would spell IDCC's fate, or crush anyone's nuts for that matter.

Licsensing of their essential IPR in all modes of the 3G standard will not be hindered by a NOK-QCOM deal. IDCC's technology will be in Nokia's 3G phones and IDCC will be paid for it.
