Tony,

Good find, if Dell is showing a demo, much closer. Do you have any idea when Itanium will officially be released? On your second link, they had another link to:

Dell? and Intel© IA-64 Technology

Dell is working with leading vendors to provide solutions that are based on the latest technology. Continuing this practice, Dell is working closely with Intel Corp. to help enable products based on the Intel IA-64 architecture. These joint effort opportunities help Dell and its participating vendors to be "early to market" with a comprehensive suite of IA-64 based products and software solutions for customers.

IA-64 is the next generation microprocessor architecture from Intel, with 64-bit technology. Intel has announced that the Intel© Itanium? processor is the first IA-64 processor in a series of other IA-64 processors to follow. This architecture offers increased performance for many server applications, including:

Large/fast database transactions
Electronic business
Scalable web serving (i.e., security/firewall serving, web portal hosting)

IA-64 also provides larger memory addresses, support for large multi-processor systems, and scalability.

Financial services, telecom, retail, healthcare, and government are key industries that may benefit from this new architecture.

Intel is a registered trademark and Itanium is a trademark of the Intel Corporation
