"I think the bigger question is the economics..."

lml- Yes. I know VDSL is touted to be the telco solution to do TV. But the much bigger question I was really asking was one of economics. IMO, it's huge. Just having the pipe(a 6 Megabit pipe is not easy in itself) and is just one single part of broadcast quality TV. What about the hundreds of millions required to duplicate the cableco's headends? I don't know if it's just me, but there happens to be a few close by. And they are HUGE. I can hardly imagine what it costs to build and equip them.

I wonder if there is going to have to be a significant shift in the entire broadcast TV model in order for the telecos to be able to afford to do TV. And I'm sure it will be connected to the Internet in some way. Or maybe MMDS will be the real-world solution all telcos will use for TV? It's just too early to tell. All I've ever seen is very limited trials of TV over copper. Maybe I'll be surprised at how economical it turns out. It's been a couple of months since I've reviewed the tests. Maybe it's time for an update. -MikeM(From Florida)
