There is no need to resort to belief in God to justify a doctrine of rights and laws. We order our society as we see fit, and we have decided that a doctrine of rights and laws suits our purposes.

I am personally not convinced that rights are inalienable. Maybe they ought to be, but in the practical sense they are not. People declared them, they fought for them, and they earned them. They continue to fight for them today; in our country most often with words, in other places very often with bullets.

I don't see any need to invoke God to derive a doctrine of rights and laws. These doctrines derive from choices made by our forefathers and continued by us. If we value them, they will remain. If we do not, they will cease to exist.
