So far, you are correct - because NO ONE has made ANY COMMITMENT to AMD's out-in-the-future SludgePumper.


What you don't seem to understand is that SledgeHumper already has a major installed software base: the X86 market.

Don't you remember that backward compatibility with the installed software base was the reason that Intel became the gorilla that it is? How many companies have come along with a superior CPU design and been foiled by this business reality? The performance of x86 apps on Itanium is no better than the performance of x86 apps under emulation on a number of RISC chips- was that ever good enough?
