Orchid aims to be a leader in the development and
commercialization of technologies, products and services
designed
to measure and use information related to genetic diversity.
We
expect our proprietary technologies will significantly enhance
the
way companies generate information about single nucleotide
polymorphisms, or "SNPs," the most common form of genetic

diversity. The pharmaceutical and medical communities can
use
genetic diversity information to facilitate the development of
highly specific and efficacious drugs, to improve the
effectiveness
of existing drugs, and to increase the likelihood of success of
tissue transplants. Orchid's proprietary technologies also
have
other commercial applications outside of the healthcare field,
including forensics and paternity testing, as well as improved
crop
development and livestock breeding programs.

comparing the Gene-TAC with the MassARRAY? of SQNM
and the
SNP-IT? of ORCH +AFFX
GNSL makes the equip that makes the biochips but they also
offer a "complete
solution"

"The high throughput, precision XYZ gantry robot of the Flexys
Workstation,
combined with
biochip production tools and software, may be used for
creating biochips from your
own cDNA
or DNA libraries. When used in conjunction with the GeneTAC
Hybridization
Station and the
GeneTAC Biochip Imager and Analysis software, the Flexys
System for Biochip
Production
becomes a complete integrated biochip solution.

Optional equipment may be purchased for colony picking,
nylon filter
gridding and library manipulation."

so what's the diff? I know that SQNM and ORCH look @
SNP's but, they need the
biochips to do this.

GNSL makes equip. that makes the biochips but, also makes
analyser's and
software solutions for database manipulation

which is what orch+sqnm+affx do.

GSI holds the distinction of being one of the first co's with a
commercially
available system for producing, hybridizing, imaging and
analyzing biochips:

GSI may consider Affymetrix a technology rival, GSI CEO
Jeff Williams doesn't
perceive them as a competitor.

GSI's method of chip production, robotic spotting, is
conducive to the production of
small numbers of varied chips, which is most suitable for drug
discovery
applications.

Affymetrix's method, photolithography, is ideal for high-volume
production of the
same chip, better suiting it to clinical diagnostics and clinical
trials applications.

Corporate Profile
Genomic Solutions is a leader in total integrated
solutions for both genomic and proteomic
research. Genomic Solutions was one of the first
in the industry to implement the entire process
of proteomic analysis and gene expression
analysis. The result is a unified family of products
that work together for precise, convenient and
efficient proteomic and functional genomic
research. Combined, these technologies can
shed more light on disease processes than either
can alone.

Our GeneTAC? Biochip System supports
complete gene expression analysis, including
DNA library management, biochip production,
hybridization, imaging and data analysis. Our
Investigator? Proteomic System integrates 2-D
electrophoresis with mass spectrometry into a
highly automated and reproducible system
through a series of robots and bioinformatic
software. In addition to these systems, Genomic
Solutions offers contract services for complete
proteomic and genomic research, with
experimental results remaining the customer's
intellectual property.
