My vegetable garden is dragging its feet this year. I'm actually quite glad that I didn't put too much time into it so far. It just keeps raining and raining and is dull and cloudy out. The plants aren't doing too well at all, except for the celery and broccoli which seem fairly happy.

I've been so tied up with this battle over the spreading of human sewage on the land near here that I seem to be missing out on the good things happening in my garden. Yesterday I suddenly noticed that my Sinbad peonies must have bloomed about 2 or 3 days ago and I never noticed them. Made me really mad when I realized that I've been wasting a ton of hours indoors writing angry letters and talking to politicians and others for hours each day... That is NOT what life is about for me... Oh well...

I have a lavender variety that is super hardy, but I forget if it is Munstead or Hidcote... I'll look tomorrow. Anyhow, it's very tough and does well. It really is the only variety that can survive our winters. I like to bend a few stalks of it down and set a couple of small rocks on each one to push it down against the ground. Soon there are lots and lots of new little plants growing every inch or so along the branch. When I want to move them, I just snip off a section of rooted branch to transplant elsewhere.
