Did anyone hear anything about what caused Edwarda's illness?
While reading all the posts about her illness, I felt a cold chill because her symtoms sounded so familiar.
You know I had a place in the country, well last summer I decided to do some renovations because of water leakage and to replace the old insulation and drywall. We tore out old water damaged wood, black with mold and mildew, old insulation.
Gradually, over the next couple of months I became very sick, I developed horrible headaches, sinsus problems, stomach problems, malaise, lack of energy, weakness, respiratory distress, dozens of small annoying problems, one thing after another, some days I was so ill I couldn't get out of bed. You know how physically active, running etc. I was, eventually I couldn't do anything because my muscles were so weak.
Eventually, I was hospitalized because I needed oxygen to breathe..I was lucky to be attended by a specialist trained in Occupational and Evironmental hazards who soon as I told her I was renovating and about the black wood, old insulation and other stuff, she knew right away what the problem was..environmental poisoning! I was slowly being killed by my house..weird huh.
To make a long story short, I had to move out of my house, it has taken me months to recover to the point where I now have some interest in life, I had to fight my way out of the darkest place I have ever been in my life physically and mentally, I know now why Winston Churchill called his depression, the black dog..:)
Both my dogs became very ill as well, and they are still trying to regain their health.
I had read earlier about Edwarda's house from hell and the water damaged apartment she lived in and I wonder...
There is nothing I can do for Edwarda now, but maybe my putting this here will help someone else who is suffering in this way and don't know what the problem is..
old buildings with water damage are very dangerous and should be treated with respect..mold and mildew can release toxins that are deadly and can kill you..
Jane, sorry for the long post, but I have debated all day as to whether I would post this, its very difficult for me to reveal personal stuff. I don't want to take any attention away from the mourning for Edwarda, but I felt this may be important and if it helps one person, I'm sure Edwarda will be smiling..
