...to date SNDK is 100% outsourced, from raw chip production to final assembly

SanDisk is moving from a fabless towards a partial fab model. I knew about the JV venture with Toshiba (in Virginia?). But, I also thought that Sandisk had part ownership of FAB facilities in Taiwan. If that is true now, I am not sure that I would consider SanDisk to be completely fabless. Nevertheless, I don't want to play a "splitting hairs" game. I'm content with the notion that they are primarily fabless at the moment.

Aus, on behalf of UF, Tekboy, and the rest of the gorillas & kings thread, I would like to thank you for bringing SanDisk to our attention, and keeping it in our vision last year and this, as we were focused on other potential gorilla candidates.

And I think Tekboy has done a nice job of elucidating the challenge before SanDisk. IOWs, it is in a tornado, but not all tornadoes spawn gorillas. Until its patent "lock" or "nonlock" is defined in a way that is completely clear to all, I would still consider SanDisk at this point to be a gorilla candidate, but not a full grown gorilla. Of course, I'm banking on the latter. <g>
