I have no problem with those statements. But as you know, they are different, both in tone and in substance from your previous one.

Strong evidence that "many" innocent people have been killed by the state of Texas in the last hundred years would be hard to come by. Especially hard if you limited your search to the last 50 years.

Modern investigative techniques, modern courts, and laws which enact the death penalty on only the most heineous of criminals have virtually assured a six sigma level of accuracy. I agree with your "idea" to offer drugs as a way in which to influence the outcome of guilt. But no method would be completely 100% fullproof. We may find ways in which to lesson the degree of error. But that's about it.

As DNA testing and other scientific methods become commonplace to investigative law enforcement officers. The potential for an innocent person to be put to death lessons every year. I prefer to make laws which account for the present, rather then ones which dwell on potential wrongs of 60 or 100 years ago.

Murderers, rapists and more, getting out on early parole create more horror in our society than the relatively small number of innocent people unjustly killed. Since we lack the will to lock these nut cases up for life, (as they should be). Killing them seems to be the best, of a bunch of lousy alternatives.

How many people do you think have been killed by a murderer who was let go free instead of serving out his life sentence? I'll wager you it's far more than those which have been put to death innocently. Don't their liberties deserve protecting?

Your utopian models are wonderful Terry. Unfortunately, they don't account for the realities of present day life.

Reality shouldn't be ignored when making laws.

Michael
