As an owner of a company making software, I can tell you that we expect to start making 64-bit Windows software year 2001 or 2002. We are already making 64-bit Linux software, since most our Linux software can just recompile on 64-bit Linux. This is definitely not the case for Windows. So for a very long time, Intel Itanium will be a Linux thing.
