ECB FACES TEST OF FIRE WITH VARIABLE RATE RE-FI MECHANISM sg.dailynews.yahoo.com Thanks. Rates are going up in Europe, and it looks like the BOJ is doing the same. If Euro, Yen or Gold interest rates ever traded close to U.S. rates, it would raise the risk of a systemic problem as foreigners (read: carry traders) bailed out of US assets. I see this, and not an overheated US economy, as the reason the Fed may have to raise rates regardless of the upcoming election. (The US economy "overheated" long ago).
