Re: "Elmer, yes, I do think posts on message boards can move stock one way or another"

Then should I conclude that you think my posting SETI benchmarks will cause AMD to crash tomorrow? I am long AMD. I want it to go up and I don't think for a minute that I have the power to manipulate prices. I am short July $85 puts. I have been posting my put positions here for many many months. My only purpose in posting those benchmarks is to tweak the nose of those who claim Athlon would kill CuMines when run on unoptimized code. In this case they were dead wrong.

Re: "Of course, you evaded the center of the question, but no matter"

Then to be sporting I will respond now:

Re: "As for the SETI results: it appears that the relevant data for that algorithm fits in a 1 meg L2 cache (hence the high Xeon performance), but not in a 256K L2 cache (so P3 and Athlon sit further back). Comparing P3 and Athlon performance, where the FSB is at the same speed, the performance is essentially identical per MHz"

Doug, the Athlon has a 200MHz FSB(port) so there's no way to have them running at the same speed but the first non Xeon or Gigamine is a PIII running at 450MHz with 100MHz FSB. I don't know how it runs that fast and there's nothing special about it. Another typical 733MHz PIII with 133MHx FSB runs over 1 hour faster than a 750 Athlon. We even see overclocked Celerons running neck n neck with Athlons of the much higher speed.

Re: "Regarding the Athlon FPU, how do you then explain the Duron outperforming equivalently-clocked P3's on 3d studio Max benchmarks? Magic? Every review site must be lying when they assert the Athlon FPU is superior?"

No question you can find benchmarks that run faster on an Athlon than a CuMine but the reverse can be said as well.
