Merrill Lynch unveils 26 top stock picks

NEW YORK, June 22 (Reuters) - Amid a schizophrenic U.S. stock market that has turned
from highly volatile to lethargic since the first of the year, Wall Street giant Merrill Lynch
unveiled a list of stocks that it called its best long-term investment picks.

The list includes some unsurprising blue-chip names, including General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE
- news) and CitiGroup (NYSE:C - news), and also some high-tech favourites such as JDS
Uniphase Corp. (NasdaqNM:JDSU - news) and Yahoo Inc. (NasdaqNM:YHOO - news).

The list was first presented to Merrill's army of over 14,000 brokers last week and was
formally presented to the public in a press briefing at Merrill's world headquarters in
Manhattan on Thursday.

``As companies navigate the transition from the old economy to the new, the common theme
among the companies on our list is their ability to be agents of change and to use change as a
way to accelerate growth and increase shareholder value,'' said Andrew Melnick, director of
Merrill's Global Securities Research and Economics.

Merrill noted that the companies represent diverse industries and geographic locations, with
about 40 percent of the recommendations being non-U.S.-based companies.
