She went out with me on Saturday (to supervise my work on the pond and to stare at the fish), and while I was busy I heard the sound of cats fighting and saw Peanut racing toward the house. Don't know if one of the cats was fighting with her (they seemed to get along fine) or if they were all fighting with the black snake that was paying a visit recently (we consider them kind of pets, too -- we kill copperheads on sight, but leave the rest alone, even rattlers). I'm more inclined to think it was the snake since the only injury is a tiny puncture, though I couldn't find the expected other one. If it'd been one of the cats, I'd have expected more damage from claws and teeth.

I'm inclined to think a snake bite punctured an organ.

The dog loves cats and wouldn't hurt one, even while playing. We were always amazed at how he somehow knew to play very gentle with her.

I recognized this particular snake, and he does bite when messed with too much. He's never tried to bite me when I relocate him away from the house though.
