Really the only thing an f stop does is let you control the depth of the back ground but that can make a difference when wanting to highlight a subject.

As a rule I don't take many pictures except like when the foal was born so going with the newest technology isn't needed. I still have an old box camera where you look down for the view finder. Have another one that takes 120 film.
