INFOWAVE LAUNCHES WAP BUSINESS SOLUTION AT PC EXPO
FirstHand(tm) brings convenient, lightweight wireless access to Microsoft(r) Exchange(r) from WAP-enabled devices
New York, New York, June 26, 2000 - Infowave Software, Inc. (TSE: IW) today at PC Expo launched FirstHand, its latest wireless business solution. Infowave's FirstHand provides real-time wireless access to Microsoft Exchange information from the new generation of Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) devices. Strategy Analytics, Inc. predicts that 80 percent of all phones shipped in 2001 will be equipped with a WAP browser, accelerating to 95% by 2003. FirstHand will be distributed directly by Infowave and through Infowave's channel partners and key technology partners such as Nokia and Compaq.
"WAP is going to be an extremely important technology for the business market," says Neil Cusati, Vice President of Wireless Business Units for TELUS Mobility, western Canada's leading wireless carrier. "By providing real-time access to critical Microsoft Exchange information, Infowave offers a very compelling business case for WAP in the corporation."
FirstHand further enhances the spectrum of devices that Infowave supports and enables corporations to standardize on Infowave's wireless solutions whether their mobile workers are using laptop, palmtop, or handheld computers, digital phones and pagers, or WAP-based devices. FirstHand is extremely easy to use and takes advantage of the features built into WAP-enabled devices. Mobile users simply point the phone's microbrowser to a URL that represents their own corporate domain. Once authenticated and connected, the mobile user can view, edit, create and delete items just as if they were using Microsoft Outlook(r) on their desktop computer. FirstHand provides the ability to send and receive email, book calendar appointments, query and update contact records, and access tasks in real-time. Users have complete control over virtually all of their key Outlook applications and features.
"FirstHand is critical to Infowave's mission of providing wireless access to the enterprise across a full spectrum of devices," says Bijan Sanii, Chief Operating Officer of Infowave. "By adding FirstHand to our suite of products, corporations can choose an Infowave solution regardless of the type of device their mobile workers want to use. With WAP forecasted to grow dramatically around the world, FirstHand gives Infowave another product with international appeal."
FirstHand is scheduled to ship in July 2000 with introductory pricing starting at $60/seat. It is also available as part of Infowave's suite of products.
Infowave's software provides fast wireless access to web-based applications, the Internet, corporate Intranets and email for mobile workers who need real-time access to important desktop information, whether they're across the hall or across the country. Infowave's customers can choose from a spectrum of mobile devices including phones, pagers, handheld computers, laptops and WAP enabled devices. Infowave's software sends the right information to the right device at the right time.
