SunSpot - the problem with IA64, IMO, is that in its first iteration, it is likely to be a lot slower than IA32 for almost every job. That will be as true for Linux as for MSFT. Willamette will suck the doors off of Itanium. Most jobs that need big address space can use the 36 bit address space and get most of the benefit while still running in IA32 architectures.

So it doesn't really matter that the 64 bit version of Win2K is still a ways away from production - the real target was and is McKinley, not Merced.
