**OT** Les, the way I read it, IBM created a new category in the memory hierarchy: compressed RAM. This works the same as virtual memory only instead of banishing the least used memory pages to disk, you store them in compressed RAM, which can be accessed much faster than the disk, essentially doubling RAM capacity.
