That sounds like MOT 2 years ago when they were struggling to come out with their first CDMA Star Tac. They had just figured out that the 25 million analog customers in the US were going to be converted to digital CDMA customers.

Unfortunately for the wireless companies, their relationship is with the service provider, not the customer. This makes the technology investments by Verizon or Sprint PCS increasingly important as they upgrade from cdmaOne to 1x MC CDMA. It leaves companies like MOT and NOK out to dry when they upgrade from analog and cdmaOne to new technologies like MC CDMA.

The introduction of 1X MC CDMA landmarks the introduction of software content to wireless. Hence, the era of personalized network computing has just begun. The tethered era of cords and bulky PC's that sit on your desk while you are out playing has just ended.

We have not even begun to witness the real deployment of resources to wireless computing and communications. Are companies like Palm, Hand, and RIMM going to let the opportunities in CDMA Wirless computing go undeveloped. MSFT & other computer giants are going to deploy more resources now that the R & D time for 1X and HDR have ended.

Wireless can now move beyond the restriction of the handsets. Mobile PC's, planes, trucks, boats, cars, PDA, handsets and every other device can be connected to persoanlized information networks at any time.

IMO, I think the weakness in the stock price today was a function of the big hit that the wireless component companies like Sawtek suffered. The big MOT downgrade by Lehman did not help the group either.
