jewel...a very hard lesson i learned early on was to take money out of a bull microcap run as the bull was running, and to do it every week without fail no matter how great the mkt looked at the time. and i mean money posts taxes for short term gain....so after i took out x amount for federal and state i would still take money out and park it in the money market or munis. and investors usually like to push a bull run to its limits, me included.

acquiring that discipline was difficult but was probably the best lesson i ever mastered. yes you have less committed as the mkts soar to the heavens BUT when a correction or a bear hits you are then really able to make money if you know your companies. because it always turns...always. during the down months you are able to buy stocks that have dropped 60-80% from peaks reached only months or weeks before. and if they are the right companies you are setting yourself up very well for the next run.

being a bear in a bull mkt and a bull in a bear mkt can lead to that wealth you refer to. that may not square with many of the other theories out there but it works for me.

above all else one has to stay in the game...you have GOT TO be able take advantage of chaos and dis-intermediation when the mkts get hit. overall (taking money out of a bull run) mitigates risk and keeps you alive, and staying alive and having funds when others go bust is crucial to making money in this game.

i'm not complaining either, altho i have been pounded like everyone else. i'm getting ready for the next move.
