Thank you for using The Value Line Investment Survey for Windows version 3.0 preview. Your input over the past month has been quite valuable, we appreciate your support. The following are the most frequently asked questions.

We suggest that you take a look at the online tutorial under the Help menu for a complete tour of the software. If you should require assistance with this program please contact us at vlsoft@valueline.com or by calling Value Line Technical Support at 800-654-0508. This preview copy contains the expanded database from the Plus version of the Investment Survey for Windows product. For information on how to upgrade to the Plus version call 800-654-0508

1. Should I install version 2.10 or the version 3 Preview?
You should install and continue to use version 2.10 as it is the fully functional product. We recommend, however, that you install and familiarize yourself with version 3 as it will be replacing version 2.10 very shortly.

2. What is the release date of the full product?
The anticipated release date for version 3 is July , 2000.

3. Will there be any additional cost when the final version is released?
No. We do not anticipate any price increase.

4. When will Technical Analysis be available in the preview version?
On the July 2000 CD.

5. When I open the Value Line preview program, I am prompted to sign on to the Internet. How can I avoid or disable this feature?
While in the Web Browser or IE 5 go to TOOLS|INTERNET OPTIONS and select do not automaticlly dial my default connection.

6. Should I be using the preview version to do my usual screening without getting bad data?
You should use version 2.10 until version 3 is released next month. However, known data probelms have been corrected.

7. Will I be able to import my User Defined Fields, Portfolios, and User Lists from version 2 to the final release of version 3?
No. Due to the radically different architecture this will not be posssible.

8. When I try to open a company report all I get is a blank screen, why?
You probably do not have Acrobat Reader installed. You may download it for free by going to www.valueline.com and clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

9. When I try to open a company report, I get the following message: Acrobat Reader not registered. Why?
See 7 above.

10. I downloaded the latest update from the Internet and executed the file, however, it will not update version 3. Am I doing something wrong?
Stocks.exe does not update version 3 only version 2. Click on the Updates Icon in version 3 to update the data.

11. I ran the update last Friday and it took 1 hour and 45 minutes. Why does it take this long and will it always take this long?
You are downloading data for the complete 6,000 plus stocks. If you subscribe to the 1700 this time will be cut by over 1/3. In both cases however, you are downloading 50% more data than was available in version 2.

12. When I try to run the update, I get the following: You do not have authorization to access this area. Why?
This should not happen in version 3. Call technical support if it does. Also, be sure you are not trying to download for version 2. Click on the Updates Icon in version 3 to update your data.

13. Will I be able to print from the What?s New section in the final release.
Yes.

14. I have scheduled my update to run on Fridays at 2:00pm but I can never tell if the update ran or not because the log section is always blank. Will this be available in the final release?
Yes.

15. I tried importing my Value Line web portfolio into the software but nothing happens. Why?
This is not functional in the Preview edition.

16. I tried uninstalling version 3 from the start menu, however, I get the following message: Unable to locate the installation log file ?C:\Program.? Uninstallation will not continue.
Delete the program files manually. The installation may have been interrupted which would cause this problem.

17. Every time I attempt to display under Summary & Index, I get the following error message: ?Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error. Program D:\Valueline\vlis.exe. Abnormal Termination.? When you click OK, the program shuts down. Why?
This should not happen with this CD. The problem was with the intraday update file sharing.
