Just had a flash of intuitive connectivity as I'm reading a book about the history of neural nets (for an article I'm working on that connects brain activity and faith):

Would it be possible to develop an algorithm capable of "learning" the warning signs or price patterns that precede a stock's movement into consolidation, and then signs that precede a rise in volatility? What would that take? What sort of information would you have to feed into such a system?
