6/27/00 - Nokia, Ericsson to face competition from Sony

JUN 27, 2000, M2 Communications - Nokia, the Finnish telecommunications equipment maker, and
its Swedish rival Ericsson may have to face increased competition as Sony, the Japanese electronics
group has said that it will focus on the mobile telephone market, aiming at increasing its market share
about ten times from the current 2-3%.

The reason for Sony's new strategy is reportedly that the company cannot expect any further growth in
the electronics market for video players and such equipment.

The plans were revealed in an interview with the CEO of Sony, Kunitake Ando, carried out by Reuters.
