My read is the Sun release showed the IDC report
including TOTAL Unix sales and a breakdown showing
entry level systems (where Sun has a commanding
lead) and high-end systems (where Sun also has a
commanding lead. According to what I read, Sun lead
in all 3 categories. That press release didn't mention
mid-range servers however, where IBM may have grabbed
the lead w/the S80.

To me, the bottom line is this: Sun server sales for
Q1/00 were very strong and continued to lead the industry
for the 5th straight quarter. That means, at least up
to the end of Q1/00 Sun's profits in the server market
have not been negatively affected by IBM server sales.

That's my take...
