Tench,

"Yet he talks about the unreleased
RISC competitors in nothing but a positive tone. The guy has an obvious bone to pick."

What's wrong with the chart I steered you to there? Where
is the bias in laying out the numbers there?

Interesting observations on your part. Maybe he is less
than glowing... Two possibilities here:

1) He is blowing smoke and lacks technical credibility
to even back such assertions and when Itanium rolls
we will really see how things are.

2) He is on the mark and is willing to stick his neck
out regarding such assertions.

Either/or ... time will tell.

But back to what I wrote there. Which is it? Will
the "superior" EPIC trail EV68 such that it could even
be described as "merely competitive?" Sadly, SpecFp95
goes away on Friday (no new submissions). Bet Itanium
does better at 95 than 2000. But will be rather silly
talking about Spec95 in Oct-Nov when 95 was frozen in
June...

At 1.2 GHz, EV68 will be at 120 SpecFp95 , will Itanium
hit 80? Will we see 800 MHz Itanium parts? If those
turn out to be the numbers in November, how does anyone
call Itanium competitive with Alpha and keep a straight
face?

Maybe even faster !"

Get out the marketing tools. Gonna take a lot of heavy
lifting. . .
