Another article about Ruiz

biz.yahoo.com

This one has a couple of interesting quotes -

"Ruiz also hinted at renewed attention at AMD to networking silicon. Once on the block along with AMD's analog communications chip unit, the company decided to keep its networking assets amid a sudden craze in the market for chips dedicated to networking functions in Internet switches and routers.

``We realized that it was more valuable than any money we could get for it,'' Ruiz says. ``We have a much stronger contingent of people in networking than anyone, except for say, a company like Lucent. ... Beyond that, we'll say more about it later, except that we feel bullish about it.''"

> It appears that AMD is looking into producing something like networking processors.

"AMD also has yet to bring forth a chip for the server market. Its high-end 64-bit processor, codenamed Sledgehammer, will begin shipping in sample quantities during the first half of next year, Ruiz says, but not in time to mount any measurable challenge to Intel's 64-bit Itanium processor, which is due before the end of this year. Ruiz hinted that part of AMD's server strategy will involve a commitment to the open-source Linux operating system, but would not give any details."

> The first X86-64 OS may be Linux based? Ruiz is good, he keeps us guessing. ;)
