Hello Bill. Just read this message. Thanks. My 1 week + vacation was pretty good. We spent it at the Outer Banks of NC. We had quite a few big storms and our beach ISP did not work too well for us this time. But otherwise things were enjoyable. Next mini vacation Ocean City, MD.
Where are you? On a mini vacation also? gg.

Coming back to WCOM. Since I wrote earlier, things look a little diff. WCOM and Sprint evidently have not totally scrapped their merger plans yet. Even though there is lots of talk about other possibilities. Like WCOM going for NXTl or DT going for WCOM or Sprint etc.

I also listened to some of the talk on TV about the DOJ opposing this WCOM'Sprint deal. Ms. Reno and Klein did their thing again for all to watch on TV.

I just listened to Tony Ferrugio of A.G.Edwards. I guess he is their tel.com. analyst. Listening to his words I guess I am not quite out of my mind about not understanding why the DOJ is against this merger. Europe's opposition I can understand. Unless it is favorable to them, things are never really acceptable. gg. After the war there were many signs there saying: Yankie go home. We finally did and now they want us to stay over here.

Anyhow, Tony Ferrugio just said: "I don't see how anybody in their right mind, who is even remotely familiar with long distance competition, would see this merger as a threat to competition. It just ain't going to happen."

I understand that SBC/Ameritech and Bell Atlantic hold about 2/3 of the domestic telephone share. And again: WCOM and Sprint were going to divest their overlapping businesses. So, now you tell me what the DOJ is really thinking. Something fishy in paradise when most people in the telecom field do not see anything wrong with this merger, but the DOJ does. As a matter of fact, WCOM and some analysts actually believe that this deal would be VERY good for consumers. It would lead to even lower telephone prices. Consumers seem to be the DOJ's biggest concern. So where is their beef really?

Techs got hit a bit before the FED announcement tomorrow. QCOM did alright.
