The second half will be strong only relative to the very weak 2nd half of last year. The next 4 quarters (starting with the third) will be very "easy compares". On a similar note, the first two quarters of this year look terrible relative to the strong first two quarters of 99 "hard compare" Lou will cop a plea on the first half and then show "robust" growth in the second half. The analysts will eat it up boosting the stock to $160 by year end 2000. But, when you average out year to year growth, NOTHING will change. It'll be 5% to 6% at best as it's been for much of Lou's tenure. I speculate Lou will then bail, declaring final victory and foreseeing a bright (at least two quarter near term) future for IBM. He then gets a Bush cabinet post or ambassadorship where he can further stroke his ego and remain an arrogant SOB without having to worry about such mundane things as revenue growth.
