I'm not sure if this will work to get two machines on your cable modem...

But what happens if you use dedicated IP address on your PC that is connected to your modem, say 192.0.0.1 and have a gateway on the other PC @192.0.0.1 would it access the net?

OR

What is the Gateway on the PC connected to the modem? Try and assign that Gateway to the other PC...

My DSL modem used a gateway of 10.0.0.1 and all PC's plugged into the network used that gateway.
