well, that is certainly true...let's say the stuff emanating from Fed governors lately was mixed, like 'on the one hand signs of a slowdown, on the other hand still inflationary pressures'. but their modus operandi up until now has been to barely stop short of telling everybody outright what they were going to do, so if they hike tomorrow, it will clearly be a departure from that.

i agree the WS hype in recent weeks has been incredible...everything from the hikes are over to the soft landing is in the bag has been trumpeted from every which rooftop, while as you mention the commercials short spoo position has grown to record size.

btw, my own view of the most recent economic data is that while the economy may indeed be slowing down, inflation doesn't seem to be - on the contrary, i think it's a given that the next ppi/cpi data will show a re-acceleration of inflation, in spite of the BLS's best efforts to dress up rising prices as falling prices...:)
