From Albert: Taiwan's Via Opposes Rambus Standard, DDR Royalties, Paper Says

6/27/0 21:18 (New York)

Taipei, June 28 (Bloomberg) -- Via Technologies Inc., the
world's second largest computer chipset supplier after Intel
Corp., said it has no plans to support U.S.-based Rambus Inc.
memory chips, the Commercial Times reported, citing unidentified
Via officials. The company also sees no reason to pay Rambus
royalties on a memory standard called Double Data Rate (DDR). Via
remains fully confident in its existing PC-133 chipset line
supporting DDR, the paper reported.
Rambus in recent weeks has signed contracts with Hitachi Ltd.
and Toshiba Corp. requiring the Japanese companies to pay Rambus
royalties for proprietary chip designs.
