Dennis: Re: TD-SCDMA in China and the world.

The Siemens / MII combination may well be dangerous to Qualcomm's potential in China. But like all such, it may not.

We simply don't know.

In any event, Qualcomm has stated explicitly that TD-SCDMA requires the Q's IPR.

TD-SCDMA may be a bargaining chip.

Unlike other observers, I see Qualcomm as in a potentially very strong position in China, because the best shot the Chinese manufacturers have for both local and export in mobile wireless and the data capability for the internet connection is CDMA. And the Q has planted the seeds for that.

And the export opportunity is there with Qualcomm's CDMA 2000, starting with 1X (or the first phase of CDMA 2000) (or IS-95 C as the Koreans call it).

And it would seem that Korean companies have advantages on a government to government level that Siemens does not have.

And the Koreans are on the way to CDMA 2000 (1X MC) this fall and HDR early next year.

Comments?

Best.
