KT Freetel launches Korea's ninth wireless mega-portal
Korea Telecom Freetel (KTF) Tuesday launched a wireless mega-portal, bringing the country's top nine Internet portals to its PersNet, a wireless Internet brand.

Yahoo Korea, Chollian, Daum, Unitel, Lycos, Hitel, Netian, Shinbiro and Freechal yesterday signed an agreement with KTF, bringing the near 500,000 PersNet users to the portal companies and content providers (CPs).

Starting next month, PersNet users will be able to access their favorite portals through wireless handsets by logging on to the Internet World site on PersNet menu. For example, a Daum's Hanmail user will be able to retrieve and send e-mail on the wireless handsets using his existing Hanmail account.

In addition to the e-mail service, individual portals will make their contents available on the wireless Internet service as well, greatly boosting KTF's content service, which has been rather lackluster compared to its rivals.

KTF said last Tuesday's announcement will be followed soon by similar arrangements with 50 other portals and CPs, including Hanmir, DreamWiz and Auction. "When Internet World is completed sometime in September, we would have drastically changed the competition in the wireless Internet market," said Won Soo-il, the KTF official in charge of PersNet business.
