Persistence Software and Isocra Offer First Live Content Reporting for Enterprise Java; Evolutionary Technology for PowerTier Slashes Development Time
SAN MATEO, Calif. and CAMBRIDGE, U.K.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2000--Persistence Software (Nasdaq:PRSW), The Engine For E-Commerce(TM), and Isocra today announced the first "live content feed" report generator designed for Enterprise Java. LiveReport works with Persistence PowerTier(TM) to report live content based on data extracted from Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) -- eliminating the need for developers to write complex infrastructure code. Companies with online trading or auction sites, e-marketplaces, order management and other real-time systems can now quickly develop EJB-based applications that provide users with up-to-the-second information.
LiveReport was initially developed in order to meet the content needs of a mutual customer of Isocra and Persistence: Instinet Corporation, the world's largest agency brokerage firm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reuters Group PLC. Persistence has licensed LiveReport from Isocra, and will make it available to customers as an option for PowerTier later this year.
"Today, reporting has to be personalized and delivered on an as-needed basis as information changes," said Duncan Johnston-Watt, managing director, Fixed Income Technology at Instinet. "Traditional client/server technology with its request/response semantics doesn't deliver the kind of performance demanded by large-scale B2B systems. With LiveReport, PowerTier enables a different kind of interaction based on a new publish/subscriber paradigm. Isocra has built on the pioneering work done at Instinet to solve this long-standing problem in the industry."
"PowerTier for EJB with LiveReport provides the easiest, fastest way to get latest-state information out to huge numbers of concurrent users," said Christopher Keene, CEO, Persistence Software. "Isocra, with its expertise in e-trading systems, has enabled us to be the first EJB vendor to offer integrated real-time reporting in an EJB or J2EE environment."
How it Works
In Internet systems, the application server contains information critical to the business, such as pricing, positions and inventory. Whenever this critical business information changes, users need to respond. The LiveReport framework automates the development of client applications, which automatically inform users of important business events occurring within the application server.
Most developers must spend months coding complex notification mechanisms to connect application server events with the appropriate end users. With LiveReport, end users can create their own custom reports, which notify them immediately of any business events in the application server of interest to them.
Persistence PowerTier for EJB server enables Java-based, multi-host distributed applications, such as e-trading systems capable of handling massive transaction volumes. LiveReport technology enables clients of these systems to always see the current state of markets or business processes via the reporting of real-time updates. Developers work in an interactive development environment to construct LiveReport definitions, such as a Portfolio Report, focused around EJBs. Instances of these reports are monitored and observed by applications in order to obtain updates whenever the information changes. Both HTML and Java client interfaces are supported for presentation of current state information to any number of application clients.
