If we make them carry liability insurance on their cars, why can't we make them carry health insurance?

CB, I hope you don't mind my popping in here. I've seen you make this point a couple of times and I have a question. We're required to carry liability insurance in case we injure someone else. We're not required to carry collision or comprehensive. If we want to pay to fix our cars out of our own pockets, that's our business. If we can't afford to fix our cars, that's our business, too. In your scenario, would Bill Gates have to carry health insurance? [Disclosure--I recently switched to a doctor who doesn't accept insurance. It's wonderful. When I go, I have the office to myself and she and I talk until we both run out of agenda items. I hand over plastic on the way out. What a concept!]
