Mula - Re: "Do you think that the server market will be as segmented as the PC market? "

I think the answer IS YES - the server market is already heavily segmented - with the bulk of the <$20,000 servers primarily Intel-based, the bulk of the >$100,000 servers SUN based, and Intel/Sun/Alpha/SGI(?) are fighting for the middle ground.

I see this continuing as Intel's Pentium III & Xeons continue to eat up the lower end, and Willamette/Foster take on the middle end, with ITanium moving in on the middle and upper ends.

But the segmentation will remain. It's a natural fall-out from price-performance attributes of server equipment.

Remember - very high end servers contain a LOT MORE than just CPUs - to handle extreme I/O, extreme fault tolerance, data storage, etc.
