Dia Met/Executives -2: Postpones Annual Meeting
KELOWNA, B.C. (Dow Jones)--Dia Met Minerals Ltd. (DMMA) named James Rothwell
president and chief executive, succeeding James Eccott, who is retiring.
In a news release, Dia Met said Rothwell, formerly president of BHP Diamonds
Inc., will also join its board. He will assume the new positions Aug. 15.
BHP Diamonds is the 51% partner and operator of the Ekati diamond mine. Dia
Met holds a 29% stake in the core zone joint venture of the Ekati mine, which
began production in October 1998.
The company also said it has rescheduled its annual meeting to Aug. 30 from
July 28. Dia Met said the delay will allow it to consider the nomination of
one or more independent directors to its board.
Dia Met said a review of its dual-class share structure continues. It noted
that a "number of shareholders have requested additional time to consider the
matter." A special meeting of Dia Met shareholders will be scheduled to vote
on a restructuring proposal when the timing is appropriate, it said.
As reported, a special committee of Dia Met's board was formed in March 2000
to consider the merits of a possible consolidation of the company's Class A
and Class B shares. Dia Met said it has about 10.2 million Class A shares and
about 22.1 million Class B shares outstanding, on a fully diluted basis.
Dia Met is a mining company.
