HJ, Guess who said the following? 3/9/99 Amazon.com has blown away expectations since its IPO, so it seems reasonable to assume that it might continue to do so. It also has the potential to generate Dell-like returns on invested capital--which should lead to a higher P/E multiple. 7/22/99 Amazon.com's Q2 results were merely in line with our estimates--for the first time ever. 10/28/99 We continue to believe that Amazon will win the eCommerce game, one day becoming ahuge, profitable powerhouse. At some point soon, however, we believe investors will become tired as we are of endless postponement of gratification. 2/3/00 We continue to believe that Amazon will be the long-term leader in the e-commerce game. Thanks to increased disclosure from management, highly-profitable new partnership deals, and a positive outlook for 2000, we now have greater confidence in the long-term profit potential. 4/27/00 The AMZN story continues to transition from growth to earnings-a transition that will likely require another quarter or two of investor patience. 6/23/00 We believe AMZN is at its most inefficient now and should improve on its efficiency throughout the year....We are maintaining our rating at this time as we do not believe that AMZN?s current operating profile reflects what the company can do long term.
