Once Fidel is gone there will be opportunity, no matter who replaces him. Whether or not the US will seize it is another story. I'm sure the Cuban exiles will have a long list of reasons why normalization shouldn't happen - yes, Castro is gone, but... If we had a President at that time with enough brains to develop a plan to help Cuba become more democratic and free-market oriented - and that will take a while, look at Russia - and the guts to tell the Cuban exiles where to put it and what to settle for, it might happen. A lot also depends on who emerges in the fight for power. The US could play a role there too but historically speaking usually does the wrong thing. :-(
