RE: <Thanks, I left a message with the AP at that #, although what good it will do now is questionable.>
Doug,
Yeah, I am not sure how much good it will do either. I am at work and ever since the "lovebug" virus they use the proxy server to block out external mail sites like Yahoo or Hotmail. But this is the message I intend to send when I get home... For now I read it to the voice mailbox :)
I am writing about an article posted today that was written by Cliff Edwards that showed incredible bias and lack of knowledge that is inexcusable from any competent journalist. The article is short but full of inaccuracies and I think that a retraction or clarification should be made.
dailynews.yahoo.com
The inaccuracies in Cliff's article include erroneous or misleading statements such as:
"The Pentium 4, which goes on sale this fall," This may be true but is misleading because the Pentium4 is not scheduled for full volume production until mid 2001, the release in the fall will be in very limited volumes. This has been admitted by Intel.
"... Far outpaces the processing power of AMD's recently announced Athlon chip, which runs at 1 gigahertz, or 1 billion bits of information per second." First AMD's GHz chip is not recently announced, it has been readily available for months. Second this is not a fair comparison. You are comparing Intel's anticipated chip from Q4 with AMD's current chip from Q2, AMD has already announced that by the time that Willamette ships they will be shipping Mustang which is the successor to the current Athlon chips and AMD claims it will be competitive with P4 in both clock speed and performance. Why was this not mentioned? AMD's claims should carry no less weight than Intel's, especially considering Intels current difficulties in meeting comittments and promises as evidence even very recently by Dell's admission that it is experiencing shortages of Intel product.
These inaccuracies should be addressed, the article sounds like an Intel sales pitch rather than a piece of competent journalism.
Petz, What email address did you send your message to?
Thanks,
