I believe that Intel's production on the lines that produce the processors in demand has been well beyond the max for a while now. Unfortunately, the lag time in that business is pretty long. Intel made a couple of decisions to develop additional capacity, including the delay of Timna (the integrated "system on a chip") to free up production capacity. With luck we will see some easing in 2001.

But processors are not the only components in demand, and the tight supply chain would be a problem even if Intel could double production tomorrow.
